The P.O.M. is a league of human governments, under the control of the Lord Martial. During the early twenty-fifth century the Earth population was in the fifty billion thanks to genetic discoveries that had tripled normal life expectancy. Man had colonized over a dozen worlds but only the brightest were given rights to live there. Earth governments attempted to enforce the resettlement of millions of humans from earth to the new worlds; however the governments of these new worlds refused to take the refugees. The two governments split creating the Inner System Coalition and New World Resistance. Shortly afterwards war was declared.
The ISC sent hundreds of thousands of advanced synthetic war machines to force the new world governments into submission. For decades never ending wave after wave of Synthetics bashed against the Colonial borders, slowly creeping closer to their final target. Then, the machines stopped coming. Earth was perplexed because they were still producing and launching the transports.
The mystery was unveiled when the transports returned to the inner system, retaliating against their creators. With little human military forces available the Earth and its entire people were at the mercy of the Synthetic invasion.
But the newly formed governments of the outer systems would not allow the Synthetics to exterminate the people of the ISC. They returned to Earth and fought the Synthetics back long enough for the ISC to draft countless millions into service and pursued the Synthetic ships back to a world they had taken as their own. The planet was bombarded for ninety straight days creating a molten world where nothing could survive.
The Synthetic Wars were over. But the effects of the war were not. During this bleak time the leader of the New World Resistance, the Lord Martial, came to power over all of humanity. After the long war most of humanity had forgotten what it was like to be in a free government and the Lord Martial stayed in power. He then abolished the old governments and formed the Protectorate of Man, a military regime that touted the defense of humanity as its only concern. Under his iron grip he took Humanity from a crippled colonial race to the dominate empire in the galaxy.
Grand armadas and war machines such as the Azeral, a powerful machine warrior with the mind of a man permanently uploaded into it, conquered hundred of worlds for the P.O.M. The construction of the Juno Star Forge, a massive star dock capable of creating star ships like none the galaxy had seen before, sealed Humanities grasp on their new empire.
With the Azeral as the Protectorates hand of destruction an army numbering in the billions and an armada that stretches entire star systems the Lord Martial declares full scale war on all those that threaten the Protectorate...
